What are TMJ Disorders?

Temporomandibular joint or TMJ disorders (also referred to as TMJ pain) might sound new to you but this kind of medical condition is nothing new. TMJ pain is a result of different kinds of disorders involving our temporomandibular joints or jaw joints.

This joint is found on both sides of our head, near the front of our ears where and they are responsible for connecting our lower jaw or mandible to our skull. Without these joints, we will not be able to move our jaw that we cannot yawn, talk or chew.

Disorders of the TMJ can be caused by the erosion or displacement of the disk in the joint, wherein it is moved out of its proper alignment. It might also be that one or both of your jaw joints are damaged by arthritis. Another factor that causes disorders of the TMJ to develop is the overuse of the muscles that stabilize your jaw joints, which can be due to habitual clenching or teeth grinding.

  1. A person suffering from TMJ problems and disorders can be easily diagnosed and treated as there are many experienced dental implant surgeons, who are assisting in the treatment of the patients.
